I would have to refer to Plato's Forms here since this is posted under the Philosophy section.

You can show me a beautiful flower.
You can show me a beautiful girl.
You can show me a beautiful sunset.

But, you can never show me beauty.

The Form of beauty is uncomprehendable to us because it exists in a state of perfection that is above and beyond each individual perception of a beautiful thing.

There are many forms of beauty, and beauty is that which stirs an emotion. A sunset, a mountain, a rainbow, woderment of nature causes just such a stir, and you could indeed define them as truth.

A face can be called beautiful, but there isn't necessarily truth there. It may be just tacky Las Vagas facade, hiding uglyness and exploitation. If truth is beauty, then humankind is fickle and pays little heed of it.

This being Satan's world, truth is usually ugly. That is why we lie to each other: if truth were really beauty we would enjoy hearing others talk about us. So, to me beauty is defined as something that is aesthetically pleasing, even though it may be a lie or a falsehood of some sort.

That which is pleasing to the senses.

I thought about this a bit more since I first answered, and realized that beauty in a person comes more from within than from outward appearances. It usually shows in the glow of intelligence and warmth in the eyes, the gentleness of the mouth and the readiness to smile. It transcends age and gender. It's something that speaks from one soul to another.

In my personal opinion, and based upon my experiences beauty is nature and all things natural. For example, a female not hidden behind make-up and fancy hair-do's, just herself. A tree, not cut and transformed, but standing tall in it's place. A sunset, not in a picture, but witnessed sinking below the horizon.

You're fat.

If that were true, would hearing it be a beautiful experiece for you?

But to aswer your question; the Socratic (and Yogic) stance that the abstract For of the Beautiful (Sanskrit Ananda) cannot be discussed, only directly experienced.

A monk meditates in a field of golden flowers
A sweet scent permeates his world
The monk picks and sniffs a flower
The monk is filled with ecstasy, though the flower he has picked is bug eaten and shriveled
The monk who is blind finds the flower exceedingly beautiful
BEAUTY CANNOT BE SEEN

beauty is relative to its beholder. Beauty is the perception of something appealing to the sight. This means that what you perceive and is appealing to you (beautiful) might not be appealing to me when I perceive it.
