It really depends on your view of how a ouija board works...

If you believe that you are contacting spirits, then you could fall under one of the spirits influence, or you might have opened a door, let one into your home, or have one hanging around you, which might not necessarily be good.

If you believe it's all just "in your head". Then psychosis, or neurosis could happen, obsession with something, or even a full blown psychotic break, depending on how stable your mind is o begin with.

If it's outside of your head, not everything in the spirit realm is friendly, somethings are downright evil, and can be dangerous.

If it's all inside your head, then it's even more dangerous, without a psychiatrist for a guide, you are taping into your subconscious, and allowing whatever is in there to come out...Unresolved issues? How about repressed memories, or subconscious desires, that could blow up into full blown obsession.

Think of it this way, if you call, something will answer. It doesn't matter if what answers has an objective reality, to the person calling, it does.

Absolutely nothing since Ouija boards do not "contact the spirit world". They rely on the imperceptible muscular movements of those touching the planchet -- The thing that indicates letters.

Penn and Teller on their Showtime Show, "Bullsh*t" (with the letter I) fully and soundly debunked Ouija boards.

They had a group of people use a Ouija board normally. The planchet indicated words, apparently answered questions, etc.

They then blindfolded the group and, without telling the group, rotated the Ouija board 180 degrees. The board didn't function as it did when the group was not blindfolded. For example, when a Yes/No question was asked, the planchet indicated the spots that "Yes" or "No" had been before the board was rotated. Neither did any words get accurately spelled out by the planchet.

Obviously, either spirits are completely blind or the Ouija board opperates based on the imperceptible muscular actions of the participants.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with all the other answers to your question. I believe the worst thing that can happen (with a real ouija board, not the mass produced 'toys') is that you find a true answer that you neither expected, nor wanted. It has to be treated with respect. I don't know where the answers come from, but I have never sensed a demonic presence. Also, since I am quite familiar with 'spirits', I would not be surprised if they were communicating through them, although I have never seen one while using a ouija board, toy or otherwise.

The Ouija board has a long and rather horrific history. To the mystically sensitive, and this has been documented in more than one case, spiritual possession may occure.I had one once. Used it during a party one night, treated it like a joke. No possession took place but we did notice a strange "feeling" in the house. Later I decided to throw it away. I put it in the trash, walked it to the curb, went back into the house. Three days later I went to the coat closet and there it was.Talk about spooked!! My advice to you is leave it alone.

I think that ouija boards are some bad juju. My best friend at the time and myself played around with one when we were in high school and it was very spooky. In the few times we used it, my friend would always start by asking for a good spririt. We asked it what the names of our guardian angels were and it spelled out actual words that seemed like unusual names. Neither of us were steering it - the direction and lining up over the letter was too precise - no half-way between letters, etc. We found a book in the library describing how someone who spent a lot of time with a board woke up one morning and found their refrigerator perfectly upside down in its spot in the kitchen with, of course, a tremendous mess inside - there were pictures. I really am not sure about them but I believe they are a method of communication of sorts. I want to say there's nothing to them but it's unclear to me. I would never work with one again. We ended up burning the one we had after one or two more sessions and never spoke of it again. My advice is to not involve yourself in such mischief. Good Luck!

yes I used the ouija board, and I did it alone. You don't want to do that. I was asking questions and my cousins daughter screamed, so I went to see what all the fuss was. what I saw was my Dog who was put down because she was very sick. anyway there she was standing on my parents bed snarling at me, meanwhile my cousin was outside. when I aked her to come back in she said she would, but only if that man was gone. what man? I asked. we came back in and I put away the board. I wiped the table off and nearly burned my hand. YOU DO NOT WANT TO PLAY WITH IT. it was a horrible experience for both of us.

I never had a bad experience but have heard from several ppl that they did. My mother will do tarot cards and other Occult-ish things, but not the Ouija board.

that is been quite nicely documented that spirits can use Ouija forums to speak with the residing. i do not recognize why they prefer this medium yet it really is irrelevant. sure that is for genuine (why else might want to churched people freak out on the very aspect out of it?) there is not something "evil" or morally incorrect with utilizing 1, purely observe that you're contacting lifeless and doubtlessly risky spirits. in case you do not recognize what you're entering into, it would want to finally end up poorly for you and anybody else in touch. purely make confident you recognize what you're doing, and that you're prepared for it. solid success

alec d is WRONG. The worst thing that can happen by using the ouija board it the AMAZING waste of time. You would make better use of your time picking your toenails and stacking them into little groups of 3-4 and then watching the second hand on your clock for 15 minutes.

i used it once, and i got so freaked out b/c a friend of my deceased grandfather (he died before i was born) told me about where he met my grandfather and what year. Odd? Well, the little village he told me that he met him in no longer exists and hasn't been officially called than in nearly 50 years.

Since then, I refuse to go near a board. All I know is that it's not something to play with.
