I agree most TV i.e. reality progs are pretty crap, the soaps are not much better but the BBC/CH4 do have some decent factual programmes and there is always radio. Ratings are not as high these days so the programme makers don't seem to be putting as much effort in these days with the Internet,DVDs,computer games etc occupying people's time more but I think the worst culprit is ITV total rubbish and the MINT seems like a con to me especially with those stupid stack games where nobody ever wins the top prize because the answers are so obscure. I was watching one night and a caller gave a really obvious answer the presenter said it was not there but a few seconds later because it was so obvious he said it was and the caller won a prize and they say it's not fixed!

No, because I don't watch it. I don't have cable or freeview -just the five channels. My children do not have the telly on endlessly - just watch a programme or dvd and then TURN IT OFF. If you expect television to entertain you 24/7 then you will be disappointed. Nobody takes the trouble to make good drama anymore because everything has be to a soap of some sort to satisfy the public's need to follow the fortunes of their favourite characters. This is the altar on which we sacrifice all the potentially good dramatisations that require more than two minutes viewing to assimilate.
Crap tv will continue and grow but you don't have to be part of. Tonight I got home from work, cooked and served supper while children watched Pirates of the Carribean (because sequel coming out on DVD on Monday) and then when they went to bed I read a book while watching 'The Shawshank Redemption'. Perfect evening.

When its a choice between several crap reality shows where so called "Celebrities" (who noones ever heard of ) make fools of themselves in the name of publicity.
Or talentless wannabes wail their way through Celine Dion songs in the hope of being The Next Big Thing.
Or repeats
Or crap like Robin Hood.
Then yes.
I'm enjoying Torchwood, I enjoyed the latest adaptation of Jane Eyre and there's occasionally something watchable on SKY. But for what we pay for it, one or two decent programmes a week is a bit of a rip off!
Luckily I don't watch a lot of TV normally but I'm currently stuck at home nine months pregnant and waiting for baby to arrive, so TV has become my friend and companion. Sad eh?

⥠What ever happened to those priceless memories of shows like I Dream of Jennie, All in the Family, City Guys, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Night Court, and Music on MTV!
⥠What every happened to actors that actually deserved merit such as Meryl Streep (I met her), Henry Winkler (met him as well) Emilio Estevez, Anthony Hopkins, Martin Short, Billy Crystal, Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Al Pacino, Chevy Chase, and much much more. Those are the classical actors. Those will remain in our hearts forever , unlike the spoiled today.
⥠I am so disgusted by how reality shows are sullying television. I love the concept of television for it brings earth-shattering dramas, news details, and educational programs. However, this generation of actors and televison are heading downstram
⥠I loved those 90's movies, they had so much to offer with awe-inspiring twists and turns along with a family message to strive for your goals such as October Sky, Alaska, French Kiss, The Greatest Panda Adventure, Scent of a Women, Fly Away Home, Dr. Dolittle, and Disney classics of a lifetime!

Yes! We have cable, and there is nothing but 15 news channels and a whole lot of garbage. I do a lot of reading, usually 7 to 10 books from the library every week.

yes, and which is why i haven't watched a single programme for 2 months.at least with dvds, i can pick what i want to watch, rather than have some overpaid worker from the bbc, itv or whatever swamp the tv schedules with incessent, mindnumbing crap. reality sure as hell sucks: big time! and yet they still expect us to fork out the licence fee? they wished! alas, this goes to just what a disgrace tv in britain has become nowadays, isn't it?

Yea I spent 20 years without a tv and didn't miss it a bit. I find very few shows even bearably watchable, let alone good.
