We lost everything in a fire last year, and have been trying very hard to rebuild. But we don't have the money to do so. Where can I get help to make our dreamscome true of having our home finished and a good Christmas for the kids? we are struggling so hard I don't know if the kids will have much of a Christmas this year either. My husband and I just hope we can get our house done.

Can you get a loan? If you post another question saying where you live and the best interest rate you've found so far, people might know where to get one cheap. A possible way to pay off such a loan would be to rent out a room for a year to someone you or your friends know and trust or to a professional person working for a big company.

For christmas presents, you could make a list of what you want to get the kids, then post it in a question on here and ask whether anyone knows where you can get them cheap (online or offline). Say what area you live in. You might look on eBay.

Do you or anyone or your friends and family know how to make any presents, such as people into carpentry, sewing, etc. Look for ideas and designs and instructions on the net.

Do you know any tradesmen, such as plumbers and plasterers and carpenters that might donate their services for free in a weekend blitz on the project, as part of a big barbacue party for families and kids. Try extending the circle of people to include friends of friends. That way, you might get the project done and make some new friends into the bargain.

Do friends and family or local charity stores have any junk that you can sell on eBay to raise money?

Can you earn extra money in the evenings by running some kind of service, such as baby-sitting or dog-walking or any special skill that you have already or can learn quickly using info off the net?

Begin with praising God for sparing your family. Then realize that if you can get your house back together THAT will be the best Christmas present of all. Remember the real meaning of Christmas and then do the best you can. One of the fondest Christmas memories I have is of sitting around the fireplace where we were burning sticks and twigs we children gathered because our father had left us and we had no gas or electricity in our home for the whole winter. We didn't have any presents but we had some good food and mom made cookies over a can of sterno ( I still do not know how) and we sang songs and talked and sat close together to keep warm. I've had much better Christmases in my life, but none that I treasure or think of more than that one.

Go to www.freecycle.org this is a web site that is all over the USA and other countries as well. This site is 100% free in every way. What ever people don't want, they post it. What ever people need, they post it. You can not sell anything on this site at all. You are giving it away or asking for it. So what I would do if I was you guys, I would go on there, (you have to register of course, but free) and post it on there as to what happened and I am sure that folks on there would be more than pleased to help you out with anything and everything that you need. I'm talking about beds, living room furniture, clothes, food, toys, etc. What ever you need, somebody somewhere will have it. The one getting the stuff is the one that has to go after it in most cases.

I sure hope this helps you out. It is the best thing that I can think of for now. Good luck.

PS If you need any help with this web site please let me know and I will try to help you out if possible.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was going to tell you to contact the Salvation Army. What about the Red Cross or other organizations in your area?

Are there any support groups where you live. Sometimes it helps to talk to others who have suffered the same things. They may have ideas to help you.

What about your church? I think that would be a good place to look. Best of luck to you.

American Red Cross is probably your best bet otherwise they will refer you to another organization if needbe like Salvation Army, Catholic Charites. Check your local yellow pages. Even the fire dept can help you Good Luck

Go to a Christian church and talk to the pastor. He can counsel you & your husband. Counselling is by the Word of God and is free. The church may be able to help you w/ your family's needs.
The childrens programs at church are usually really good and I believe your children will be very blessed if they attend.
The Lord helped my family and I in times of need and being around believers was very encouraging and supportive.

I pray the best for you & your family.

God Bless!
