Does anyone think that originally humans were gay, then resorted to the opposite sex to keep the human race going. We're studying evolution in biology and I have to write a paper. I wanted to see what people thought of this before I threw it at all the strait people in my class.

Nah, I don't think it stands to reason. In order for them to 'resort to the opposite sex' to keep the human race going, they'd have to have thought it out in just that way. And if you belive in evolution, then we evolved from creatures who weren't, at first, capable of such intelligent thought and logical reasoning. They wouldn't have known how procreation was related to the sex they had, so they wouldn't have been able to do as you theorize.

I just don't see it. Sorry.

You might be able to pull it off in debating, but probably not biology class. No leading theories yet as to why people are gay, or the associated brain mechanisms. You'd probably have better luck arguing that we're all basically bi -- at least you'd have Kinsey behind you -- but the rest (the prevalence of straight) would be social evolution then, which is really dangerous territory.

With evolution, things happen. Gay happens, straight happens, bi happens. The things that mean greater chances of reproductive success or survival happen again in greater numbers than the rest. That explains 1 in 10. At least in theory.

Research observation of primates in Africa indicates that a certain number participate in same sex contact. The primates (chimps, gorillas, etc) who do this appear to do so for two reasons: (a) they seek a refuge from the more violent, indiscriminate behavior of the other primates, and, (b) they tend to be the members of the group who use "tools" (like long sticks to gather termites). This means that these "gay" primates are an evolutionary step forward from their more primitive peers. If this evidence is shifted to our community, then gay and lesbian humans are more evolved and intelligent than their heterosexual counterparts.

No I dont think so I think if we wer all gay only a few of us would cross over to populate the species but all in all I think the human race would be extinct if we were all gay

No but I am somewhat inclined to think like Freud that we are all more or less polymorphously perverse. Biologically, some of us are more attracted to the same gender or sex for some unknown reason.

Since according the the bible, the first human was a man, I'd bet he found release in any warm spot he could before eve arrived.

From an evolutionary standpoint, it's probably doubtful that all were gay, but I wouldn't doubt 10%. :-)

to blackbird: youre so stupid, there's nothing wrong with being gay and besides, if we weren't "cursed with" death then how would we prevent overpopulation? and how could we not die because of an accident? it is based purely on science, you idiot.

Well, it's a fun fantasy.
EVE: Adam, let's have sex.
ADAM: Hell no. By the way, did you see how hung that gorilla is?
EVE: OK, OK. Let's do it, but you fantasize that I have a dick, and I'l fantasize that you have great boobs.
ADAM: Alright, works for me. But God I wish you really did have a dick.
