Female circumcision is 'justified' by saying it removes desire and pleasure and ensures that a woman will not seek sex outside of marriage. The side effects are horrific. Firstly, there is a serious danger of infection, there is almost always serious scarring, and the genital mutilation frequently results in difficulty with urination and with childbirth. The ritual is performed on young girls, who are told this is a special rite, for their own good, and it an honor for them to participate. Little girls of five or six are not critical thinkers and if that's what their mother tells them, they believe her. And so the myth is perpetuated.
No one has the right to do this to another person, and certainly not to curtail sexual activity. If, in fact, this was done to promote and preserve the sanctity of marriage, doesn't it seem reasonable that men should be similarly 'honored' so they don't go out tomcatting?

The effect is a long and pleasurable sex life. Technically "side" effects relate to changing the natural form (like giving a drug or amputating parts of a baby boys penis). Having a natural body leads to natural things (natural sex, natural masturbation, natural protection) nothing to the side or off the natural course. There are no side effects, the effect of not harming a baby boy -- not cutting off parts of HIS penis -- is he gets ALL OF his natural body. He gets to sense with about 20000 fine touch and stretch nerve endings that penis amputees are missing. I need to rebut the cut up penis is cleaner nonsense. Besides the fact that a body part can be as clean as you want it to be, it is now known that bacteria is all over ones body and has special purposes.... People with diseases often have different bacteria (not more). There is a study on it but it is also obvious that circumcision exposes the human to foreign bacteria. Circumcision makes the penis dirtier, a fact that was confirmed by a study recently published in the British Journal of Urology.1 For at least a week after circumcision, the baby is left with a large open wound that is in almost constant contact with urine and feces--hardly a hygienic advantage. Additionally, throughout life the circumcised penis is open and exposed to dirt and contaminants of all kinds. The wrinkles and folds that often form around the circumcision scar frequently harbor dirt and germs. The germs are not always the ones that should be there. Thanks to the foreskin, the intact penis is protected from dirt and contamination. While this important protective function is extremely useful while the baby is in diapers, the foreskin provides protection to the glans and urinary opening for a lifetime. At all ages, the foreskin keeps the glans safe, soft, and clean. Throughout childhood, there is no need to wash underneath the foreskin. Mothers used to be advised to retract the foreskin and wash beneath it every day. This was very bad advice indeed. When the foreskin becomes fully retractable, usually by the end of puberty, your son can retract it and rinse his glans with warm water while he is in the shower.

I don't think the Clitoris is circumcised as you may think.
If you are talking about what they do to little girls in Africa that is.
They take a dull instrument and cut the clitoris off.
O, oooooOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCcccccccchhhhh!!!
They do not deaden the chahoona either. I don't have a joy button. But somebody needs to take them ole farts and stretch there penises out on a board, drive a nail thru the head, and beat it with the waffle end of a long handled meat tenderizer like 20 or 30 time.

clitoral mutilation is probably one of the most awful things that could ever happen to a woman.....it's beyond cruel....the people who preform this on their daughters in other countries are extremely uneducated they believe that by removing the sexual organ in a woman it makes them pure...they think it will wipe out human desire and lust and the craving for affection...but they are so wrong those women will still want to be loved and touched regardless if they have a clitoris or not.and the side effects?? besides genital infections...the side effects would be psychological..and emotional...can you imagine being a woman from another country.....and coming to the United States and getting an education in human rights and then realizing what was done to you because of the fanatical religious ignorant men of your country?

Most clitoral "circumcisions" are really clitorectomies. That's right, the clitoris is removed. This is an atrocity done in the name of primitive religious and superstitious beliefs. It is done to take away a woman's sexual drive and help her remain "pure"
Its side effect is scarring, sometimes interference with urination and childbirth and not least, no more sexual satisfaction (one of life's main pleasures).

It's tradition in some cultures to hinder a women's sexuality. That will do the trick. She cannot enjoy sex...even with herself!!!
No other effects than that.

It's awful and there are groups working hard towards banning the practice.

It most certainly IS NOT right to do so. I lived in Africa for 12 years and it was horrible to see the young girls who were circumcized.. It was HORRIBLE and in a civilized country, would have been a criminal offense

The whole idea is that the daughter will then not desire sex. What a crock. Women will always desire affection, clit or no. It is NOT right to do so. It is mutlilation.
