Ladybirds are hibernating in the bathroom between the tiles near the ceiling. I would like to clean the tiles using bleach but I do not want to kill them. What should I do?

If it's the species known in North America as Ladybug, (the small round red hard-shelled flying insects, some varieties with black spots), don't kill them, they are a beneficial species and not a hygiene risk.

I have them hibernating in my laundry room and they don't invade any further into the house than just the window ledge and sill areas. I've been in this house 10 years so far, and have these guests each winter - I take it as an honour!

Bleach is not the friendliest product for the wee beasties, or for yourself, so you may want to clean with something a little less poisonous.

Place flowers with lots of greenery in a window box to coax them away from the tiles and then when you are satisdfied they have been tempted away...proceed.

You know steam cleaning is more environmentally friendly than bleach and can be just as effective!

Hope this helps.

My son is really into spiders and bugs. On his last birthday we got him a bug habitat & a bug Vacuum. The bug Vacuum is excellent for such a job. It does not harm the insects in anyway and the can be placed safely back into the garden. It is a good investment as my house stays fly, wasp, bee and mozzy free. However, im not aloud to set the spiders free!!!

Sorry I don’t know...

but ignore the ‘ladybugs' comments...they must be Americans answering this UK Question..

PS For the Americans: Ladybugs (US) = Ladybirds (UK)…OK?

If they are the British red and black one sweep them up and put them outside, if they are orange and black kill them cause they are a foreign type who are slowly replacing our LADYBIRDS

The only thing I can suggest is to live with a scruffy bathroom for a while, until they are gone!

Try getting them into some kind of container that's if they're old enough to be moved and give them to someone with a garden .They are great for getting rid of greenfly and other beasties that destroy plants.

Catch them between some kind of container (glass/jar etc.) and a piece or paper, and them put them outside.

Odds are they are not lady bugs. there is a bug that was released to kill off another bug that was released to kill off something else.. anyway. they best way to get rid of them is to vacuum them. if I am right and they are not lady bugs.( they smell when you smoosh them) they bite..
