I'm probably guessing that it won't because they want you to use the Wii-mote and the "NEW" way of playing

No, the Classic controller can"t be used instead of using the wii-remote. Only Virtual Console ( NES, SNES, N 64, Turbografx and Mega Drive ) games can be played with the Classic controller ( Game Cube controller do this too)

No. The Classic Controller is for backward-compatibility only (GameCube and Virtual Console games), and all of the Wii games depend on the motion sensing of the Wiimote and/or the nunchaku, which the Classic Controller doesn't provide.

The games seem to be designed to work around the Wii remote functionality, which wouldn't translate to the controler.

However, given the ability to plug in GameCube controlers, I think it would be logical to assume that you can use one of them.
