a paper of 15-20 pages in avarege... How much time do you need to read it and apprehend it and review it.. or summarize it?

well, it totally depends on the person, but i'd say anywhere from 1-6 hours. I actually JUST finished reading a research paper that was 12 pages long and it probably took me about 1.5 hours to read. However, if I needed to summarize it and really comprehend everythign that I just read, I'd definitely have to read it again....if I did have to do this, I would write notes on a separate piece of paper (the margin could work too, but I would prefer a separate piece of paper...it would work better for me), writing down the main points of the article. Then, I would read all of the main points I wrote down, and only THEN begin to write my summary. This could be quite a lengthy process.

It depends on how fast you read and how familiar you are with the subject. I did an experiment my senior year and had to write up a summary of previous research on the top prior to executing my experiment. I'd say it took me on average 2 hours to read each article and highlight/write notes on the important parts. If I were writing a formal summary on it, it probably would've taken me about 3 hours per article.
