(And feel like you deserved it?)

I do have a habit of putting my foot in it, and I can be staggeringly tactless if I speak without thinking. I think my worst one (please prepare to be offended) was shortly after the Indian Ocean tsunami, when I was in my kitchen with my best friend and his brother, and I was flicking through a gossip magazine, and completely without thought I said "Oh, God, this is SUCH a bad month - first there was that tsunami, and now Charlie's leaving Busted." And my friend slapped me round the head for being so insensitive! (His brother was p-ing himself laughing, but he says awful things all the time, only he's 6'4" so no-one slaps him.)

[And in case they didn't become famous where you are, Busted were a British boy-band for about a year, that broke up when Charlie (the only good-looking one) left the band.]

So have you ever shocked everyone around you with something you said without thinking?

I cannot remember. I may have said something dredged up from the depths when a relative of my late partner shouted "Lesbians ? No you're lessthannothing" I was filled with such rage I might have said anything. I would not have been sorry for it.

I was only slapped once in my life. I was sixteen and called my mother a ***** to her face. If she had had the presence of mind she normally possessed, I would have received a knuckle sandwich instead. Thankfully it was just a slap. Although she really was a ***** much of the time, I suppose I deserved the slap.

Yes, yesterday at work i said, "Thank you for your extended english language" to a girl from Kenya, after she said, "Yes, that is good." I was just trying to be funny but it was kinda mean, but, I am always joking around with her. I totally said it without thinking. This other girl started laughing. I told her not to take it personally. She didn't get mad(that I know of).

Actually what you said was hilarious, not tactless. You were using irony.

But to get back to your question: no, I have never said anything tactless enough to get slapped - yet.

yes i have. but its always with thinking prior to saying it. i like to get the shock value from people. i never do it with disregard to death. wether it be self-inflicted or induced.
