Check your water temperature. The water should be between 120 and 140 degrees. If you do not have hot enough water no matter how much Jet-Dry or any other additive you put in there your dishes will not get clean.
It is always best to run the hot water at the sink until it gets the hottest it can before starting the dishwasher to ensure that you at least start off with good hot water.

The residue may be caused by the water not being hot enough. Dishwasher detergent requires very hot water to properly melt and clean the dishes. The way to find out is to open the dishwasher after it has filled and started washing. Is the water REALLY hot, steaming? If not, the heating element inside it may be bad. If that's the problem you need to have it fixed. As a temporary fix you can be sure to run the hot water in the sink before starting the dishwasher. That will give you hotter starting water.
If it isn't that it may be some of the other suggestions.

You might be loading it wrong. Are all the dishes facing toward the center and not touching each other? Are all the tableware items handle down and not overcrowded? Did you make sure you didn't put a plate over the center part where the top sprayer pops up?
Many of the name brand detergents (and I assume you are using dishwasher detergent not hand washing soap) have a streak / spot eliminator built in.
Did you select a normal cycle and not a just-rinse or other short cycle? Is your hot water very hot, at least 140F (and if not did you select self-heat to get the temperature up)?
If you do this it has to work. We don't even rinse ours and they get perfectly clean.

It could be a lot of things. If you have hard water you may be using too much soap. Your dishwasher sprayers might need cleaned. It might be a good idea to have a professional look at it.

Jetdry. It is in the dishwashing soap section of the grocery store. There should be a little screw cap inside your dishwasher next to the soap dispenser where you fill it with JetDry.

The problem with your residue is that you didn't rinse your dishes before you put thme there in the first place. They have yet to invent something that will require zero work from us -humans....
As for the water spots try jet dry. Good luck!

I use SunLite and jetdry and also if the hot water isn't hot at the faucet when you begin then run the water until it gets hot at the faucet then fill your dishwasher and start it!

Try some jet dry, it is the best, but cascade powder works good too, those liquid ones suck the most.
