My friend and I were talking yesterday and she says how shes ready to have sex. Shes on birth control and plans to use a condom. She wants to kno if she is really protected from gettin pregnant. I didn't know what to tell her? I've heard that condoms break but generally how if they are so tested? So if it breaks is the birth control(pill) really the back-up method!

It sounds as though your friend is ready and has thought these options through which is excellent. I hope that you share the useful answers that you receive here with her...

The Pill works by preventing ovulation, as well as making the uterus less likely to accept implantation of an embryo if one is created, and thickens the mucus in the cervix making it more difficult for sperm to reach any egg. Taken correctly, it is the single most reliable form of reversible contraception, with less than one in 100 women using the pill becoming pregnant in a year of continuous use.

The birth control pill is 99% effective if taken consistently. The effectiveness of the pill becomes greater the longer a woman continues to use it. If one or more pills is missed the chances of pregnancy increases. If you decide to quit taking the pill pregnancy can occur at any time after you stop using it. The pill does not prevent or protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

That is where the use of condoms comes in. As a method of contraception, condoms have the advantage of having virtually no side-effects, and of offering protection against sexually transmitted diseases. There is a paradox in the use of condoms for contraception: their theoretical effectiveness is relatively high, but their actual effectiveness is relatively low. This is because many people fail to rigorously follow the proper procedures for condom usage. Even touching the female genitalia with the same (unwashed) hand that removed the condom can potentially cause pregnancy. Furthermore, surveys have shown that many users do not know how to correctly put them on, resulting in bursts and slippages.

Used together accurately and consistently, the chances of becoming pregnant will be minimal. However, anytime an individual engages in sexual intercourse the possiblity of pregnancy is still there regardless of how small...

Sexy, your friend should know there's no birth control thats a 100% effective, all have risks, and all have upsides and downsides. The pill is usually very effective but its use should be monitored by a doctor or it could turn out ineffective or mess with your friends hormonal rythm, the pill also has the downside that it doesn't stop infections, the condom on the other hand protects against a lot of infections and if used correctly is very good for birth control although it's not 100% fool proof either. Your friend should take into account that having sex can come with a lot baggage even if you take every precaution, I'm not saying she shouldn't be having it, but for her own good she should know what she is getting into. Either way I hope she has a safe & wonderful experience. You and your friend should check the following link: http://www.realsexedfacts.com/birthcontrolandpregnancy.htm

well first she has to make sure that she's using the pill correctly (taking it at the same time everyday and not missing any) or shes not on any antibiotics as this can alter the effectiveness fo the pill. so if she takes the pill on tiem daily it shoudl be close to 99% effective. it is very good that she says shes using a condo! cause yes the pill can fail. condoms sometimes break. they do go through rigourous test though. thay can hold liters of water and loads of air. so they are pretty secure. the main reason why they break is because of frictin. if there isnt enough lube and what not down there then they are more prone to tearing. what makes the condom effective is how you use it. its not just slipping it on then off when your done. when you put it on you need to make sure there isnt any air in the tip. also when you take it off make sure the partner has a firm grasp on at the base of the condom so no semen spills out... i feel bad for telling you all of this cause i dont knwo how ld you guys are but this is always good information to know then the time arises. just hoep she doesnt regret it in the long run! neither do you!

be safe always!

You tell her. . there is NO safe sex, period!. Condoms DO break on occasion and the pill is NOT 100% safe or 100% effective either. She CAN get pregnant even when using both. Do those methods provide some protection? Yes, some, but even if the chance of pregnancy is less than 5%, does she want to take the chance of becoming pregnant and becoming a mother at her age? Having sex for the sake of having sex is STUPID! Love has NOTHING to do with it because when the b/f gets what he wants he is likely to be gone shortly thereafter. Girls give sex to get love. Boys say, I love you to get sex. Until marriage that's about the score 95+% of the time.

Planned Parenthood can help you. Just keep the pills in your purse. Just remember that being on the pill won't protect you from sexually transmitted infections or diseases, so use a condom, too. In some states, you need parental consent to receive a prescription medication (this includes birth control pills), but Planned Parenthood will go over all of that with you and help you out.

I have never had a condom break (trust me they stand up to a lot if you get a good brand and make sure they haven't expired), but some guys don't know how to use them right though so being on BC pills helps, there is always a teeny tiny chance she could still get pregnant though i think. If shes ready for sex she should be ready for the consequences of it too!

The only true way to not get pregnant is to practice abstinence. However, the answer to your question is no. There is no 100% guarantee of not getting pregnant. Nevertheless, she is thinking smart and doing what is best.

Truly, the condom is one form of birth control and a shield against sexually transmitted diseases. And to add the birth control pill to the pot is a way to almost guarantee she will not have an unwanted pregnancy.

if your friend doesnt want to get pregnant and afraid to get pregnant then she is not ready..being ready means not to hesitate at any cost even it means a lot of risk..i believe that first sex should be the highest and most intimate and most pleasurable..without using any condoms or birth control..enjoying the love's one being, his whole body, his whole..so,having the first one should be inside marriage..
my boyfriend and i wanted to have sex but i think im not yet ready coz im not ready to have a child..and i want it to be a romantic and legal one..so we told each other we are gonna wait till we get married..maybe after 11 years..the guy will wait for my virginity, is the guy that really loves me..=)

birth controls prevents you from getting pregnant and condoms prevent you from diseases and the HIV virus so she should use both and if the condom break then she can buy "the day after" pill
