The impact of Illegals in this country is bringing some Cities to their knees. The financial cost is overwhelming. It eats at the core of the money available for legal citizens. Crime and gangs have grown in greater numbers in the areas that Illegals have settled, beside all that, they are all criminals just by the act of entering our country illegally.

If you are here illegally , you have no legal rights! How hard is that to understand? I'm a legal immigrant, we learned ENGLISH, we all worked and received degrees, my brothers were both in the service. I'm sick of it- the Italians, Germans, French, Nigerians etc, never asked for their native tongue to be our second language. Get real and get legal or get out. If you break the law by being here , we are supposed to reward you? That's nuts! By the way, in Mexico, I understand that if you are an illegal, you go to jail- period. The whole thing is ridiculous! Should the borders be closed to illegals? YES! Otherwise just open the borders to everyone and forget about anyone getting a Visa, anything else is hypocritical!

As for my answer: yes they need to close the borders good and tight-illegals are sucking this country dry. The next best thing the government can do is reform the welfare system to stop the remaining leeches from getting anything more!

I would like to see the borders temporarily closed. As far as how long they should remain closed depends on how long it takes to get the illegal worker problem under control.

Common sense should tell us that when 1000s of illegals are crossing everyday while our politicians sit scratching their heads trying to figure out how to fix it, that we need to close the border for now.

It's like imagining getting a bad cut that is bleeding and going to eventually make you bleed to death. Your family sees this and everybody sits down and decides to talk about what to do... meanwhile, you are still bleeding and going to bleed to death.

This bombardment of illegals is causing us ENORMOUS social problems on a financial, criminal and lifestyle level.

Btw, my previous significant other is from Mexico. So, if I, of all ppl, can say what I stated above, that should tell the politicians to WAKE UP that this problem is NOT a partisan issue.

I want the borders closed. I've worked many years with illegal immigrants and can say from experience that they are ruining this nation. Also, globalization is hurting this country as well.
As for those who say that illegal immigrants do the jobs that legal residents won't do is BS. Myself and people like me did all those jobs before. We will do it again if every illegal simply vanished.
Now, say I am prejudiced just because I said "... people like me..."

Isolationism has never worked in the past, and it's not likely to work any time in the future.

Best bumpersticker I saw on the issue: "Mr. Bush, Tear down this wall" (with a picture of the Berlin wall).

Tighter border security, better laws for processing immigrants, all good ideas. But attempting to seal the border is not only doomed to failure, it just makes us look scared and helpless. Hardly the image for the land of the free and the home of the brave.
