You should make the choice. I understand where your family is coming from - but I hear the love you have for him in the tone of your letter. This is going to be one of life's "not so fair" choices. You are 18 now. You have a very grown up decision to make. My best advice is to make completely sure that he is as wonderful as you think he is, cause this could separate you from the family who has loved you all your life. I have an 18yr old son and it would kill me if he went against my wishes and married someone I didn't approve of. Just BE SURE before you do anything. Money and status are wonderful, but cannot replace a family. Think long and hard. Good luck!!

What can you do? Just be honest with your parents and tell them that you really like this guy and to give him a chance. Hopefully, once they meet him, they will see all of the things about him that you like and they will like him too! I'm sure your family isn't going to say anything to embarrass you or him. You will just have to deal with them later.
You are 18 and they are going to have to let you live your life.

I really don't know - but watch Guess Who's Coming to Diner - its a really good old movie sort of deals with this situation. I mean the original movie not the want to be remake with Bernie Mac.

Your family will only accept when they see that you think he is a keeper.
