I doubt it's in sleep mode. Sleep mode is a "low-powered" mode. That means it has SOME power.

Here's what you do: Turn off the laptop. The easiest way is to hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds. Wether you see anything change or not, unplug the power cord, and take out the battery at the same time.

At this point, the laptop WILL be out of sleep mode. Guarenteed.

Put the battery back in, and plug it back in. Turn it on. If it still does the same thing, if you never see anything on the screen, then there is something wrong with the laptop. Time to have a tech look at it.

Sleep mode is good in that it allows you to resume your work quicker than if you shut it down. It does consume a bit more power though. It does harm a computer when you never shut it down. You should shut it down at least once a week. You need the computer to do "cleanup" and maintenance, which it does when it's being turned off or on. It should improve performance a bit when you restart it once in a while. It's just good for the system. Computers can run 24/7 if need be though.

it could be that the computer just doesnt like sleep mode. try disabling it. or, it could be a video card problem. is it aftermarket? if so, download the latest drivers. i would also try downloading any other updates for windows.
