A good listener will maintain eye contact with the speaker and seem interested in what the speaker is saying. The listener will make verbal and nonverbal indications that they are paying attention. The listener will insert short meaningful questions about the topic, but let the speaker say what is on their mind. When asked, the listener will give ambivalent advice that can be taken as the speaker chooses.

Yes I agree with alot of what everyone said. They have to listen, Honest to what you have said to them to give you thier opinion, Open minded because the last thing you want is to feel they couldn't ever feel what you are going through. Someone who laughs, cries with you when you just need a place to dump thier troubles.

I would say the ability and desire to listen without judgment. If they are open, considerate, and exhibit a clear interest in you and what you are saying, without nonconstructive observations - they should make a wonderful conversation partner.
