One of the most beautiful centerpieces of all is to just display the gifts of nature... part of what Thanksgiving is all about, right? I try very hard not to ever put anything toxic or artificial... glue, glitter, paints, styrofoam... on my dinner table.

Use a pretty low, flat basket as your base - for example I have a beautiful two inch high big oval bread basket in warm brown tones made by a Cowichan Indian woman. Then fill it with a variety of colorful winter squash, dried corn, persimmons or pomegranites, whole nuts in the shell. Then you can make it glow by putting a ring of votive candles in soft autumn colors around it, and coordinate your linens and napkins to the natural color theme too. Then after turkey day you can actually use the squash and nuts in your cooking, so it is economical too.

Go to the craft store and buy red fall flowers and the dried red leaves and sticks with a sharp end , Get lots of fresh red apples, get a flat round bowl at the craft store and put flower arrangement or craft foam in it, put the sticks in the bottom of the apples and place them in the foam, arrange all the fruit, leaves and red fall flowers in a festive way, put some smaller green or yellow blossoms in there to give it a bit of color.
