How old were you when someone told you that there wasn't really a Santa? Who told you and how did they tell you? I was 8 and my mom told me that because I was bad I had killed him. Talk about devastation.

Yes, I'm over the devastation. This happened like 30 years ago. Now that my husband and I have a little one I must admit that I have started believing again. I believe that Santa is in all of us.

I was around six. My sister asked, and my mom said "Do you want to know the truth?" and she said "Yes." I left the room, for some reason I thought it was going to have a major impact on my life if there was no Santa. I still get presents labeled 'from: Santa".

Wow, that's rough about killing Santa. I honestly think that my headstone when I die will say "She suffered a lingering death on discovering there is no Santa Claus". I believe in the spirit and love of Santa in a way most people forget. I would never tell a child there was no Santa, and I would be the first to argue that Santa is real! My mom never had to tell me anything, I made my choice. Santa is as real as anyone makes him. Thank you for asking this question and letting me respond to it! There are two other people at my house. Here are their responses too:

1.) "Santa is sweet! My uncle ruined christmas for me when I was 8 by saying Santa isn't real! But I want to believe that Santa is real."

2.) "When I was about 7 and AGAIN I didn't get what i had asked for, I decided that Santa couldn't be real!"

Believing in Santa as an adult isn't bad, really. I'm 39 and honestly I do believe. Not the same way children do though. Nicholos(spelled wrong) was a bishop a long time ago. He gained a reputation for gifting to the poor. He was later canonized a saint by the catholic church. Saint Nick has long since passed from us, but as long as people love one another enough to give without asking, Santa lives on. But don't forget the real symbolism for gift-giving at Christmas."Three wise-men came from afar and gifted unto him gold, francincense and myrrh"

I might be the only one on here that NEVER believed in Santa claus. Even at a young age I knew the Santa depicted on t.v couldn't be real because well....in the Caribbean it never snows, no chimneys for a fat white Santa to climb down in, no reindeer, among other things; and you saw your parents for the most part, buying your gifts. So no one could lie to you and tell you he is real. However, we would still incorporate Santa in our christmas festivities for the fun of it.

I was 13yrs old. No one told me different I just figured it out when I noticed that my mom's and Santa's handwriting was the very same. I did not enjoy Christmas as much after that until I had grandkids and became Santa. That was not a very nice thing your mom said to you. She must have been in a real punk time of her life.

My mama also told me that if I go to sleep santa would bring me a present and if I did not sleep I would receive no present. I started believing a 5 years of age cause I never could get to see santa claus. I asked this question to my grankid who is now 7 years old and this is what she just told me.

That must have been really rough for you! When I was 6, a girl in the neighborhood a couple of years older than me told me. I went and told my mom what she said, and my mom told me that she was lying. I didn't know how to believe. I just eventually stopped believing, probably sometime around 7 or 8.

I was about 9 and i found my presents by accident. I read the tag on the present labelled "from santa" and mum just told me the truth. My younger brother had no idea tho and i shut my mouth seeing he was 3 years younger than me.

I actually loved knowing though that he didnt exist....i felt like i was part of the "its our little secret club" and loved watching my brother opening his presents while his eyes twinkled.....As for the Easter Bunny i found out about him too in the next year :P
