You know the song "Canadian Idiot" by Weird Al Yankovic? Well when I was downloading it, it said that the producers of that song were infact Billie Joe, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt of Green Day who wrote the original song "American Idiot." Is it true?

Canadian Idiot (Parody of "American Idiot" by Green Day)

If you are a member of the Idiot Club Green Day said Weird Al was going to make a Parody of the American Idiot. So I guess they are fine with it.

Green Day is the composer of the song and Weird Al used the music so he has to give credit to the composer.

The way I would interpret that is because they produced the original song, they "helped" produce any parodies afterwards. A lot of bands also said that they haven't made it until Weird Al did a parody. Also, Al does not need the original artists permission to do a parody but he asks anyway because he is such a groovy guy.

Well, Rob Cavallo and Green Day produced the original "American Idiot", but the production of "Canadian Idiot" was left to Al and his people.

They probably were since weird al would have to get their permission to make the song but then again I don't think they would make fun of their own music.

Makes sense. He does have to get permission from th artists to do stuff like that, and Green Day did produce it originally, so they probably let him do it in return for their names as the producers and probably a little bit of the money.
