Just a note, I'm showing all the steps in a really slow way:

First multiply both sides by 6, the LCM of 2 and 3. You get:

6x/2+6x/3=40x6

Simplify, with multiplication and division:

3x+2x=240

Now, combine like terms, in this case the X's.

5x=240

Now, divide both sides by 5 to isolate the x and you're left with:

x=48

Hope this helps!!

x/2+x/3=40 you have to fined a sheared denominator

x/2 * 3/3 = 3x/6
x/3* 2/2 = 2x/6

the equation = 3x/6 + 2x/6 = 40
5x/6=40 multiply both sides by 6
5x = 240 divide by 5
x = 48

wishing you best of luck and Hope that i helped

x/2+x/3=40
3x+2x=40x6
5x=240
x=48
you get the comon denominator of the fraction which is 6 and you dived by 6 wich gives you 3x+2x=5x,then you miultiply 40 by 6 to even the fraction then you get x=48

x/2 + x/3 = 40

common denominator is 6

3x/6 + 2x /6 = 40
5x/6 = 40
multiply by sides by 6
5x = 240
x = 48
48/2 (24) + 48/3 (16) = 40

yeah !

First you need to convert your fractions so they have common denomanators (however that's spelled).

Remember that 1x is the same as x.

x/2=3x/6
x/3=2x/6

Your new problem is 3x/6+2x/6=40

Add the fractiongs to get 5x/6=40
Multiply both sides by 6 to get 5x=240
Solve for x by diving both sides by 5
x=48

Check:
Put 48 in for x and see if it does indeed equal 40.

(48/2)+(48/3)=40
24+16=40
Yep!

x/2 + x/3 = 40
6(x/2) + 6(x/3) = 6(40)
3x + 2x = 240
5x/5 = 240/5

the 5's cancel out so x = 48

x/2+x/3=40

equate the value of x
x/2=40-x/3
X/2=120-x/3

2(120-x)=x(3)
240-2x=3x
240=3x+2x
240=5x
x=240/5
x=48

checking:
using the equation:

x/2=120-x/3

48/2=120-48/3

24=72/3
24=24

x/2 + x/3 = 40

x(1/2+1/3) = 40

half plus a third, mmm, tricky, put over common denominatory of 6

x(3/6+2/6) = 40

x 5/6 = 40

x = 40 * 6/5

x = 48

5x = 40*6
5x = 240
x = 240/5
x = 48
