It,s been 4 days and nights and the nights are bad, I only sleep a half hour then wake up for a half hour. How long before I return to normal sleep patterns?

What you are going through has to do with nicotine withdrawal. You can try nicotine replacement therapy in the form of nicotine gum or patches. But it will take awhile to get back to normal sleeping behavior by going cold turkey. And good luck i am also quitting I started by setting a date which is December first.

Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn't addicted!

Here's what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it's regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don't know if they still have that deal, but it's worth a try.

Good Luck

I had the same problem when I quit smoking, my main problem was getting to sleep and was the cause of many relapses in the past. However, dont make a habit of it but in this situation i would recommend a high dose of benadryl, or more preferably since its controlled release (helps you stay asleep all night), something like ambien CR or a long acting benzo such as valium. weed will also help, as will valerian root, kava kava, passionflower+hops, calming teas, opium, etc.

Well, get busy. Do exercises, stretching and aerobics Couldn't hurt. Get started on a project! Clean out a closet. Have a nice cup of soothing tea about an hour before bed-time.

take some tylenol simply sleep, it has no tylenol in it just a sleep aid. that will help you get to sleep. in about 2 weeks your sleep patterns should kick back to normal, but that should help in the meantime.. i always take a double dose. you figure ambien has more to it then tylenol.. so a double dose at first should help make you tired.. congrats on kicking cigarettes!! wish i could quit, I'm too far into it though. going on 13 years

You went about it the wrong way. If you quit sleeping, you can't smoke. After a while, the fatigue catches up with you, and you finally sleep, having quit the smoking habit.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.
