First, ask the hosts what they'll need, and go with it.
If they don't have a preference, take what you like best!

It depends if you are a good cook or not. If you are then make a nice sweet potato with marshmellow topping.Or a nice mixed salad. If you think there will be plenty of veggies then take a dessert. Something creamy and light because everybody will be so full after a big meal. I remember visiting in the States and going to a place called Saunders where they had fabulous dessert , if you are not a good cook try something like that. Enjoy your pot luck.

Okay, if you're not a chef.......then take drinks, cups, or paper plates (if needed). Or are you good at baking desserts? Then, take a cake or cookies. Instant mashed potatoes are GOOD and easy to make. How about volunteering to bring the rolls and a cheesecake? It all depends on what you're cooking talents are. Either way, you still can bring something. How about a movie to watch after the meal?

It depends on how fancy you want to be. I prefer sticking to the simple. Before dinner snacks are cool like wheat thins crackers and hot ham and cheese dip. Desserts are great too such as the popular pumpkin roll and pumpkin cookies. For dinner many people enjoy baked corn and green bean casserole. Allrecipes.com is a great website for recipes.

Pick one or two things to take. Make sure whatever you do take, it's enough to serve ten people.

Green bean casserole
Mashed potatoes & gravy (seriously, if you can't cook then go to a fried chicken place and get a few family sized orders)
Baked sweet potatoes or yams (drain it, coat it with light corn syrup, sprinkle some cinnamon, bake it, and that's it)
A large basket of rolls (whether you bake these yourself or order them from a restaurant, it doesn't matter, just take a LOT of them)

Personally, I'd go the easy route & go to a bakery (Many grocery stores have them, as well as Super Wal-Mart) & pick up a pie. Or you could call the deli department at a grocery store & order a meat & cheese tray or a fruit tray for something a little different.

If you don't know how to cook, take a store bought pie. If you do know how to cook make up some mashed potatoes or bring some rolls.

I would chose a store bought dessert. People are so finicky about eating other people's cooking. Bring fudge and watch it disappear.

I usually like to take ice and drinks. No prep and it is always needed. You could ask the host what is needed.
