The most convenient way is to backup your system using special software, such as Acronis True Image, to the CDs or DVDs. True Image has very friendly interface and I think that it won't take you a long to time to understand how it works. The latest versions of ATI can burn a CD or DVD but one can just use ATI 7 (free version) to create an image of a hard drive/of a partition on a hard drive and then just burn it to CD. However ATI 7 can just burn a bootable CD and in case your system fails you'll be able to boot from it just in minutes.
You can purchase the latest version of ATI here: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
Or download a free version of ATI here: http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7

Simplest way is to buy an external HDD (hard disk drive) with software that does automatic backup. I know Maxtor made one, probably still do - I have one myself. You push a button and the computer, or whatever you've specified, is backed up to the drive.

Or you can buy a backup utility such as ghost (hard to use at first, but very effective once you've got the hang of it), or a competing product.

You can also contact you're computer vendor for a suggestion. As long as you keep track of the ticket number - they end up responsible, at least partly, if you end up screwed.

You can save your system on a CD. There should be a system called Recovery on My Computer where you can save the system.

Use Symantec GHOST. It can't run on NT based systems (XP, ME, 2000, NT) so boot your system into DOS first.
