If you are serious about the guitar then accoustic is the way to go. And they are anything but boring. You can do any thing on an accoustic it just takes practice and the sound quality is so much better. Once you learn to play accoustic you can really jam on electric but if you learn to play electric first you won't be able to just pick up an accoustic. It's easier to learn the right way first then it is to unlearn bad habits later on.

i started with an acoustic and i hated guitar i really want to play electris really bad. but with electric u have to by an amp to pretty much here it but u can still learn how to play guitar with it and its much easier to push down the strings and they look so much cooler and u can personalize them more uniquly with electric guitars so yeah thats what i want so u might like it. its funner that way.
also if u get lessons from somebody dont get a boring or older person b/c they like playing older songs and stuff like that. thats why i hated playing for a while. i really want to buy myself an electic guitar and teach my self or something.
it took my fingers about a month to get calloused by the way. and i dont play right now but i really want to. it would really rock!!
go online or to a music store and get a book of notes. that way u can know how to make the notes on your guitar. and for beginers its good to start out with a soft pick also. have fun with your guitar!!!

An acoustic is harder to play but you can take an acoustic anywhere, it is boring but for learning it is really good because you can be quiet when practicing.

I like acoustic better because the music you can play on an acoustic is prettier and more mellow.

and the strings dont cut your fingers, but they will develop calouses (sp?) faster. which is ok because you dont want squishy fingers when playing the guitar.

get an electric-acoustic! the strings don't cut your fingers. that's a lie. if you're afraid of that happening anyway, get a classical-electric guitar. they have nylon strings that don't even hurt. have fun!
