We can, and it will be a lot easier to live on Mars than on the Moon or anywhere else in the solar system. I think you should read the excellent book "The Case for Mars" by Dr Robert Zubrin, PhD. It is a down to earth nuts and bolts discussion of what it would take to put humans on Mars and to ultimately turn Mars into an Earthlike planet. The book is available on amazon.com and in local book stores. I highly recommend it.

Hi there,

It is possible, but not in our generation and it is an inhabitable planet if we take the right kinds of aparatus up there to produce oxygen but this is a costly expense to the government.

But, the problem does come down to money and because so much of the government's money is spent on weapons of destruction, there is not enough to fund life on another planet. Space-scientists would love to take humans up to mars and make it an inhabitable planet, but without the funding, we are very unlikely to ever get to mars in this life-time.

It will probably be another millenuim before it is possible and when there will be enough funding to at least do some building work up there and given how far it really is, would take many years to get there and so there are safety concerns.

As well as this, it costs $50 million just to send a satellite near to the surface of the planet, so imagine what it would cost to send a manned mission? - there is currently no more funding for space exploration at the moment because it has all gone on funding the recent war in Iraq and on global warming strategies. This is the truth.

Hope I have answered your question and no, it isn't possible for us to live on mars in our generation at least. It is sad, but then there is so much of earth to still discover yet.

No reason why we can't live on Mars. We have the technology. But gee, you want all the tax dollars to get poured into what it would take to set it up, so there is nothing left to cover all the necessities right here at home? Right now we don't seem to have the funds to operate our school systems right, or keep all our infrastructure sound, or build enough prisons to hold the rapidly expanding criminal population, or provide decent medical care for all the millions of people who can't afford to even go s ee a doctor, much less pay for the medicines they need once they know what's wrong. We can't find the money to hire all the law enforcement manpower we need, or to deal with all the natural disasters that keep destroying thousands of people's homes and wiping them out. I could go on, but I think you get the general idea. I think we need to g et our own house in order right here on earth, don't you?... before we start going somewhere else and screwing up THAT place LOL

. 1. mars has polar ice caps on both sides unlike earth wich only has 1 (antartica)
witch means that
There is actually more oxygen present than on earth remeber the
equitation for water? H20 1 hydrogen atom and 2 oxygen atoms.
2. mars is extremely cold yes sometimes reaching -140 F in the winters, but with out technology and money do you think we couldnt innovate?
3. the fact is that the reason we can't is because Aliens already live there ...

there called the annunaki

Poisonous atmosphere, too little protection from harmful radiation and extremely low atmospheric air pressure to start.

Because there is no AIR TO BREATH! NO OXYGEN! Isn't that a little obvious?

You might as well ask why we can't live on the sun.
