why are people afraid to die - we do not even know when we die - then why to worry about death - live life and forget about death - is it not as simple as simple that.

Humanity is afraid of the unknown...it is human nature to be fearful of those thing which nobody can give us some hint or pass on experience. We are also afraid of pain, physical pain, and are afraid of feeling it, and in most instances death is physically a painful process for the body.

Also, we have been brought up believing to be invincible and only realize that our bodies deteriorate slowly to finally give way to death, and step into that uncertain terrain, beyond our comprehension.

Children don’t fear death as much because they have limited experience with any type of pain, so when we are young anything is possible and we can think ourselves invincible. But as we get older we begin to see the frailty of our bodies and become more cautious, because we treasure living and feeling good, and want to keep experiencing it for many more years to come.

Science is constantly redefining our life expectancy and the older we get the more we want to live an learn and feel and enjoy and remain in the plain on earth that is very familiar to us.

Death is an unknown and we have always feared what is behind the closed door that nobody can tell us about, it can be good, it can be bad, or it can just not exist.

So do we live to leave a legacy behind us amongst the living? Or de we live to transcend to another plane? Or de we live and die as part of a cicle where it all ends?

Uncertainty is what makes us want to keep what we have now. Death is total uncertainty of what will be.

Take everything as it comes. When you die, others will follow, you won't be alone, whether death is heaven, sitting in a graveyard or rebirth. I have no advice (sorry) But i went through that stage, though it only lasted a few years, then again i was around 8... I used to always have nightmares about, darkness, nothing, etc. but then it just went. I guess i realised that everyone dies, thousands of things a day, a second, and i also realised that i wouldn't get to do this again, so i had to stop letting fear consume me. Try to over-analyse with rose-tinted spectacles. :) That was probably no help at all...oh well.

People are afraid to live ! And they donot want to accept it. They think TOMORROW would a better day to live . Also they donot know that everyday some part or the other of the body is dying , albeit very slowly.. It is this HOPE for a better tomorrow that reduces the fear of life.

Death , on the other hand, ( they feel) stops that TOMORROW business. That is the greatest fear that Death produces. "That I will have no more chances to come out of the fear of living" makes us fear death. What a dichotomy!

I think people are affraid to die because they have a natural fear of the unknown, would like to be immortal, dont want to leave their loved ones and lastly for those of us with a religous upbring we are thaught that we will get some sort of judgement for what we have done in this life. Reward for good deeds and punishment for our sins. Religous people are scared of the punishment and any hardship they may have to face after death.

People are naturally afraid of what they don't understand. That's why people are afraid of death. They're also afraid because there are some things you really want to experience in life, and death will take away the chance. Lastly, you don't want to die so that your loved ones don't get hurt.

There can be two explanations :

First, the will to live is inherent in life. Just like water tends to flow and the nature of sun is to shine, the nature of life is to continue living. It is this nature which expresses itself as fear of death. In other words, fear of death is a mechanism which forces us to keep away from death.

Second, the fear of death exists since there is deeply ingrained belief in all of us that we are the body. In people whom this belief weakens, fear of death also diminishes in the same proportion.

they are not afraid to die but they afraid that after death they will no longer be in contact with their dear ones and also they are not afraid of death but afraid of the pain they will suffer when they will be dying. if you know that you tomorrow you will be surely facing the accident then will not you be afraid that what if i lost my hand or leg. so people are afraid of pains not death itself. hope you undrstud wht i m tryin to say.

To be honest, I dont know.

I think life is life. It has a start and then an end. Why do people think it goes on forever and are shocked to learn that it is real when they hear someone is dying or is goign to be dying?

simply, it's unknown to us........
we don't know what'll happen to us after death.
and that uncertainity leads us to be afraid of death.

and i think, it's not that easy,
when u love somebody, and just try to
leave her/him is too much difficult.
and here, the thing is going not far,
but no life is there.
so ur love , ur carefulness for family,
ur expectations, stop u to go away from
the world. u can't say it'maya'

i totally agree with I S ' answer.

Think of life before death, not on life after death
