I joined the forum today and I am suprised at the answers on here.
This guy has came on here asking for advice... first of all, someone needs help before posting on here... its not a fun thing to do, then he gets a load of replies "you shouldnt be speeding" "you dont deserve a licence" etc.
The guy who made the mistake knows this, he is a taxi driver and is on the road probably 10x more than most of us. I have been done for doing 36mph in a 30 at 4am and understand that sometimes the camera does not take real life into consideration.
How about only people that can advise the guy reply? He knows he has f**ked up and I am sure he will pay for it, but he is looking for a way out for his family.
IMO the "get someone else to say they were driving" is the best option.
Apologies for the rant, be he didnt post on here to be told off!!!!

If somebody you know well has a clean licence they may well put themselves up as the driver. That way you get to keep your licence and so long as you pay the fine they can carry on as normal.
Have to admit there are some real atomotons on here, trying to claim it to be an act of genocide or something. I HATE these people, although they do make good government publicity statements. They actually believe the crap that says this could have caused an accident. If a driver pulls off from a fresh green light and is blissfully unaware of the possibility that human error could lead a driver to come through the last-second-red, they should not be on the road. Any person this incompetant should hand their licence in now before they kill themselves, and remove their festering corpse from plauging our civilisation!!!
My rant over now, the point being if you can get somebody to cover for you this time, and be ready to do the same for them once you can, you should be ok.
Just remember you may need to offer them a little to cover for increased insurance costs as well.

It's an offence of strict liability - meaninig it doesn't matter what you intended, the fact that you did it is enough. However, the camera knows that your car went through the red, the police do not know who was driving. You will be sent a letter asking you to provide the name of the person who was driving. A coilleague of mine (a lawyer) wrote the name as illegibly as possible, and some gimp managed to decipher it. It's your choice whether you take that route. Second option is to say that you do not know who was driving your vehicle at the time. I doubt the police will just leave it there. You may think you have nothing left to lose, if you lie now, I think you may find you did in fact stand to lose a lot more, and you will wish you could turn back the clock to this point.
Another option is to take the points. The DVLA will put the points on your licence - but this may get lost in the post. Things do; if so they will need to provide you with another copy - I hope with all the stress you are clearly under that you will remember to tell them exaclty how many points were on the previous one so that they can accurately transpose them.

I feel for you with so many sodding cameras on the roads it is impossible to keep a clean licence. This happened to me in kensington at 8:00am where it would have been more dangerous to screech to a halt than go through the changing red light, but the cameras don't see that do they!
My solicitor at the time told me there were more ways of getting murder reduced than traffic offences (I thought Mousalini was dead).
The only thing he said was if you need your licence for your job then if you appeal it will go to trial and the magistrate may look kindly and give you 2pts with a hefty fine. Its a long shot though
My advice to you is get down the job centre now to get a head start, oh and travel by skate board - the government arent planning on taxing / fining / holding to ransom (delete as applicable) for at least another 2 months!!

So you had 6 points?
But you still hadn't learned your lesson and continued to drive without due care and attention, thus shooting through a red light?
Didn't the light go amber before it changed?
Didn't you get a clue it was about to change?
Or weren't you paying attention to the road?
If this is an indication of how safe your driving is, you really shouldn't be allowed to hold a taxi licence.
I know I personally wouldn't feel safe getting into your taxi.
I think you should lose your taxi licence, if only for the general safety of the fare-paying public.
You've only got yourself to blame. Your previous six points should have served as a warning to you to stop driving recklessly. Especially when, as you said, you have a young family to support.
How iresponsible can you get?
There are other jobs out tehre. Ones where your bad driving won't be an issue.

Ask to see the photo.
If the driver can not be clearly seen then you have a chance!
You AND a friend BOTH plead guilty to the offence. Say you both used the car at about that time and place and do not know which of you ran the light. The police will not be able to prosecute you both for the same offence.
This worked for a speeding offence for a relative, however he is ex met police...............
Got to say - you must take more care- think of your family.

You really should get it taken care of. If you do ever come back to CA & try to rent a vehicle, it won't happen. Call the rental company and ask for a copy of the information.

You have 9 points on your licence, and you are about to get another 3. It sounds like you are a habitual offender, and it's about time a numpty like you was taken off the road for a while.
If your licence was so important, it's a shame you didn't take more care of it and not drive like a prick. That's the problem with bastard taxi drivers, they seem to think the laws of the road don't apply to them. They don't have to adhere to speed limits or lane discipline or road signals.

a couple have already said it .
get someone with a clean licence to take the hit....
of course you gonna hav to pay the fines and they may get done for drivin without insurance and you may get done for allowin an uninsured driver to take your car..but theres no points on your license for that.
to be fair you would really have t pay the extra insurance for him/her for the next few years till their poins disappear but how much is this worth for you???
and what would they get out of it?? maybe if they had free taxi for the duration of the points it would help them say ok
