my preferances are:-velvet revolver, foo fighters, lost prophets, nirvana, sound garden/audioslave, my chemical romance, queens of the stone age, evanscence, green day, limp biskit, aerosmith, guns and roses, blue october, good charlotte, the raconteurs/the white stripes, red hot chilli peppers, fall out boy and sterophonics.

I'll recommend you to listen the best British bands from 60's because many of the current music styles have their roots in sixties.

It is a nice coincidence that I (living in Northern Europe, far away from England) am very interested in British rock between 1964-1974 (= the best years of rock, I guess).

Study first the progressive line from Yardbirds trough Cream up to Colosseum (= the final step in the development of progressive rock).

Another line is the progress of heavy (metal) rock, beginning from Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep and Deep Purple.

Still one important line: more melodic bands like Beatles, Hollies, Procol Harum, Moody Blues e.t.c.

You should know the history of rock music to understand the current scene of rock music!
