I've wondered that myself. I've told others that I can stand what they can't stand -- peace and quiet. I think the others are right, that with quiet you have only yourself. Many people, I think, don't want to be by themselves and have to think about life, themselves, or whatever. However, with the development of "boom boxes," and loud car/boat stereos, it's getting harder to find a quiet place any more. I quit going to public campgrounds for just that reason. They can't stand to think....I guess....and it's sad that so many people don't have the ability just to be alone with their thoughts. I suppose the only one I can control is me, and I don't always go to noisy places. It's nice sometimes, as a diversion, but I don't need all the noise all the time. Anyway, just my humble opinion :)

once you're saying it i think an affinity in the direction of you. I appreciate your emotions. i think you're on an identical wave lengths with me. 'far from the maddening crowd' I additionally desire to proportion the tranquility and the deep peace of Nature. Noise is a curse and Silence a Boon. Oh ! the serenity and the Spirituality of Silence !!

I don't fear silence I like silence too much noise makes me nervous

Silense is Golden and I love it. God dont you think the World is noisey enough. Face your fear dude and you will learn that silence can be your best friend.. Are you afraid of contemplation because you are feeling guilty about something that you have done ???

You are afraid of silence because when in silence you face yourself, that means your fears, your desires, your restlessness.....it's a good thing to practice....you get in touch with yourself.

I fear silence because that means I am alone, and I start geting insecure and thinking about WHY I am alone, and why no one wants to be around me...
I give in to my insecurity's in silence, and my inner voice gets so loud sometimes it gives me a headache. I truely do believe silence can be deafening.

i love silence, love walking at night when all is quiet, love just sitting comtemplating my belly button.....total silence is hard to achieve tho....there is always some noise even in the middle of nowhere, unless ya lock yaself in a sound proof room....I fear being confined so that aint gunna happen

Without silence, I couldn't read and write so I would be very unhappy. I cannot wort if I don't have silence. I also need silence to sleep.

well i like silence but because i suffer from depression sometimes im afraid that suicidal thoughts will enter my mind, and they do!
