I worked for a place that direct deposited my checks. They were required to give us all paystubs. I know they were required to do so because they were so cheap they squeaked when they walked. They would never have spent the extra money for stubs if they weren't required to do so. But...check with a lawyer to be sure. It might be different in your state, this was in Colorado.

I don't know if it's illegal, but you should still be getting stubs even if they are direct-depositing. I used to throw them away until I went for a mortgage and you need to supply two or three of them. I just got lucky! Maybe you should talk to a lawyer and see what s/he has to say.

The question is how did he get your banck account information to make direct deposits? It would have to have been something you consented to. If not then it is wrong that he has your bank account info.
