Hi again Ken,

Did you see my other answer to this similar question? Did it help any?

If n is the first of 4 even integers, then the others are:

n+2
n+4
n+6

And their sum is:

n + n+2 + n+4 + n+6 = 4n + 12

Now, if their sum is 340, then you have the following:

4n + 12 = 340
4n = 340-12 = 328
n = 328 ÷ 4 = 82

So your 4 even integers are:

n = 82
n+2 = 84
n+4 = 86
n+6 = 88

PS - I think the reason you are not getting the answer you want is that the question is worded incorrectly. Your question states "n is the first 4 even integers" when what I think you mean to say is that "n is the first OF 4 even integers"

Huh? The first four even integers are 2, 4, 6 and 8. The sum of the first four even integers is 2+4+6+8 = 20. So I'm not sure where you're getting the 340 number in your question, because the sum of the first four even integers is most certainly not 340.

a = first even integer
n = first 4 even integers
a + (a+2) + (a+4) + (a+6) = 340
4a + 12 = 340
4a = 328
a = 82

the 8 even integers are:
82, 84, 86, 88, 90, 92, 94, 96

I wonder if you mean that n is the first of 4 consecutive even integers? b/c otherwise you don't seem to have enough information.
If n is the first of 4 consecutive even integers, then the 4 integers could be expressed as follows:
n
n+2
n+4
n+6
Hopefully this is enough information for you to write your relationship equation now.
