With no programs running or in the background running. I did removed a couple of programs to free-up my harddrive space prior to this occurence.

It sounds as thought there may be some processes or programs running in the background. You can go online and download ad-aware, run that and see if it finds any spyware or other programs. Have it delete those files and see if this still persists.

You need to close some programs, or stop the automatic scan which might be running in the background.

change the cursor back to a dash instead of an hour glass. That would be the first thing I would check.. Good luck
