I was against the war and still believe that it was illegal. As horrible as Saddam was, there was no threat from him to the US. There were no WMD, nor was his secualr dictatorship any of our business, nor again, a threat to us.
However....
Now, we're there. And because of us, and that is very important, because of our negligent conduct when we initiated the invasion, lots of different groups got hold of a lot of weaponry, that was once only available to Saddam's people. That is not democracy. Those armed groups are not expressing their differences but in the most violent ways. And we basically permitted their ownerships of the weapons. Also, because of us, there is migration, and groups are gathering georgraphically according to their religion. There is ethnic cleansing goiong on.
So, now what?
I believe that if we left now, we will most certainly have a very violent, very volatile Iraq. Yes, worse than what is already happening. That can lead to a militant Isamist regime there. That woud hurt Israel, which arguably means the US is hurt. Most Americans seem to feel that way. I do happen to agree that a militant Islamist regime will result, and we should not take a chance of that happening. So we cannot just fold.
I see no way but to stay there. However, the US must try and be liked in the Middle East. The key to that is a less pro-Israeli position in the Israeli-Palestinian problem, and a firm but fair hand with both Iran and Syria. All of them: Palestine/Israel, Syria, Iraq, are tied together.

What about Iraq now?
Nothing. They are killing their own people and after the americans leave, they will bring down the population of the world.
