most lug bolts stick through the hub from the back, if it is broken off, drive it through with a hammer and punch.
the new one installs from the backside, not the front.

When you say lug bolt I hope your talking about a wheel stud. If it is go with. Richard W's answer. He's right. The broken star bit is hardened and if your not dealing with a wheel stud your gonna have to get that piece out to drill again, A drill isn't gonna go through that bit. But pretty much all you can do is get the broken piece out drill it some more and use an easy out screw extractor.
if it's a wheel stud just hammer it through till it pops out the back

a million. Get a center punch and punch a tit suited in the midsection. 2. Get a drill on the subject of the right length of the stud you broke off. jointly as your paying for the drill %. up a faucet for the hollow you would be drilling. 3. After the hollow has been drilled out, take the faucet and initiate it into the hollow, using oil to maintain it cool. you ought to use a crescent wrench in case you're in a good area. 4. Thread a clean stud into the hollow and you're returned on the line.

You can go to the parts store and get a thing called an 'easy out' ... its like a reverse drill bit if I can recall correctly.

Have to agree with richard w, every lug bolt I have seen is a simple press fit. Hammer and punch and drive it out.
