i have what looks like an AV out Mini jack on my laptop. It is yellow, small and looks similar to a headphone jack, but not exact. it has an icon that looks like a rectangular monitor with an arrow starting from the center of the rectangle and pointing away from it. what kind of cable do i need and what do i need to do in order to watch things on my tv, instead of my laptop?

You should be able to transfer you picture on that. You need a yellow A/V cable to go with it. Y'know those 3 plug cables that you plug your VCR's into TVs with. You can pick one up at almost any store that sells electronics stuff. Circuit City, Best Buy, Radioschak, target, walmart etc... The only problem with that cable is that it dosent transfer sound to your tv. So you may want good speakers,

If what you're describing is accurate and it is an audio out mini port, then yes, you can. You'll need a cable that converts that mini port to a regular composite video connection, but that's about it. Of course it won't send the audio over - you'd need to plug another cable into your headphone jack that converts to the red/white cables you see in most video configurations.

YES. Be aware that it's just for video though, not audio. Use RCA jacks to connect from the laptop to the TV, then put your TV on the right input to view.
It will look great on a HDTV, but pretty blurry on a regular TV unless you are just viewing text.
