I am supposed to go to a Sunday school Christmas party 2 weeks from now.?

They are asking us to bring a White Elephant Gift. What type of gift is that. And any good ideas if you ever had to bring this as a type of gift before, they are for single M / F ages 40-50 year olds.

A white elephant gift is anything you have lying around the house you want to give away. It's a gift you don't spend money on.

It is something that is not usable.

In some Asian cultures the elephants were considered "Ganesha("Hindu God" of knowledge and bravery), and as specially the white once were not put to work in the forest for logging, so they were big expense for the owners, they may join a parade or two in the whole year, so English started using the word metaphorically, to say something is not useful and costing money to maintain, and taking up space.

So take something from your home that is like that, gift wrap it and some day you will get the same thing back after few others receiving it and passing it on to some one else.

I have a second hand furniture etc.store near me called the "White Elephant" so Im guessing its something good enough to reuse and give. Buy something that both a man or a woman could use. Try getting those oil paint by numbers sets, stationery with stamps,one of those mechanical birds that sing and move (their resonable) are all the rage now,silk or silkesque p.j., metro cards, tickets to a movie,movie videos,any of the gifts cards.magazine subscription,a mahjong set.

I like your question.You do one thing.Buy an artificial elephant from Fancy stores of any colour.Then buy a Fabric paint.Take white paint and paint neatly.If you don't know give it to any artist .O.K.
