The stereotypes I mean. Other than wanting to see all the sights and everything do you prove that we aren't all a bunch of loud, rude, fat, and uneducated.

For some unknown reason, Americans seem to think that shouting in English at people that don't speak English will somehow make those people understand English.

Most Americans I have met travelling have been lovely, but I have seen some horrors. I have also seen some terrible Australian tourists as well, so I think being a BAD tourist is an individual thing, not related to nationality as such.

I have been with Americans who have cringed at the behaviour of their fellow countrymen, the same as I have cringed at the behaviour of mine!

Mind you - Americans don't travel - 75 - 80% do not have a passport!

Panacea - have you actually travelled? I hate to tell you this, but Americans are NOT universally loved at all! The poster is correct about the stereotype. And too many cheating servicemen on R&R during the wars got them a very bad reputation as well!

I do the best I can about proving I'm not a typical American tourist. All except the fat part, I have even had hotel employees give me discounts for my next visit and free meals at really nice restaurants. It makes my friends crazy how nicely I am treated when traveling to foreign lands. I have always said to my children "when you walk out the door take your manners with you". I practice what I preach.

Almost all people in normal countries love americans. Sure. If you travel to like Iran, you might get a cold reception (or france for that matter). But anywhere else, they LOVE americans. Especially the women. Foreign women love american guys.

That negative stereotype of americans is just another lie the liberals tell people. The actual stereotype people in other countries have of us is as nice, good hearted, high quality people. For the most part, that stereotype is reinforced by their experience with the vast majority of americans who travel overseas.

The only other countries that I've been to are Canada and the Bahamas. I always acted myself, which is typically respectful and quiet. I'm not party girl, and even if I was, I wouldn't be rude to the natives. I hate it when foreigners come to my city and make obnoxious butts out of themselves, so I would never do it myself.
