There are several options:
- if you go to a restaurant and ask for your meat to be well done and in 30 min. you have to be in a movie, better don't go. Like "puffy" said above in the restaurant up to 40 min. waiting for the main meal is normal, (-depend in how busy kitchen is that time, some time has no people inside but too many orders to go....) You can order a salad or a appetaiser to fill up waiting time....
-if you order from menu something that you don't now what it is, and you don't like it, don't touch it, but tell the waiter to change it with some thing else that you are familiar. (- 99.99 % they do it)
- if the quality dosn'n match your expetation, don't eat it , ask waiter to change or void it from bill
- if you order a steak medium- rare and where it comes it is medium-rare, but you in the waiting time change your mind it is better that you tell the waiter that start to complainin about quality
- if you are not happy with your server ask to be change or don't leave tips.
Don't forget :
- if you eat it first and after start complainin because hopeing to have a free meal 99% you have to pay. So you eat ,you pay thas restaurant bussiness...
- most of waiters have a long time in that bussiness so that now where the costumere is happy or not with food for real, they are human beings and don't like when somebody tried to lie them, because they work hard for there tips....

For my self if I'm not happy with food, I pay it, tip the waiter go out and never come back again... if I'm not happy with the waiter pay the food and no tips..... This is me.......

You are obligated to pay for any goods that you order and receive. If however, you bring the manager or owner into the picture immediately, you will be given several options usually. If the restaurant is the fault of not delivering in a timely fashion or poorly prepared food, they don't want to lose you as a customer, and will offer other menu choices,a discount, a coupon for your next meal to be on the house, etc.Only on rare occassions will the entire meal be charged off. I own a restaurant and we frequently get people that get angry because they order well-done steaks and say the service took too long, because they have never cooked in a restaurant they think a well done steak cooks itself in 10 minutes or less. Truth is a welldone means22-28 minutes cook time minimum! Also, if you come to dinner at the peak of it's operating time i.e. Friday night 7pm it's going to take time to get to an order that has 15 tickets in front of it. It is not the fault of the restaurant that the guest chose to come at that time. Everyone knows they will have to wait, and we always suggest the evenings that are our slower evenings to guests that don't want to wait.

If the meal was not satisfactory, I always sent it back. They always offered to give me something else. If I took it, I paid for the meal. It all depends upon the policy of the restaurant. Some places won't charge you while others will.

Word to the wise: Don't eat the majority of the entree before complaining. Not a good idea.

If you don't eat but a bite or two, you can complain about the food and usually they will not make you pay. Just don't leave an empty plate or they won't believe you. If they suggest something else, you could just tell them you are not interested because of the poor quality of the food.

In most notable restaurants, if you are not happy and tell your server that you want to send the meal back, they will accept it and remove the charges from your bill. This should occur when the food is served. Don't eat it and then complain and expect the same courtesy. *lol*

If it has been misrepresented on the menu, then no you do not have to pay. If you eat it, then complain you may have to even if the above applied.

As for lateness, I would say up to 40 minutes is acceptable. After that I wouldnt be waiting!

do no longer hassle to take advice from our American acquaintances. they have never heard of the products and amenities Act. in case you think of that what you're served is inedible, undrinkable, no longer what you ordered or needless to say inadequate, whinge to the chief, no longer the waiter or waitress. maximum eating places will attempt to place the problem suitable. in case you acquire no satisfaction, in spite of the undeniable fact that, you're entitled to reject the meal and refuse to pay for it. The regulation says which you place self belief in the potential and expertise of the restaurateur to offer what you have demanded. What an unusual answer from Melissa L. of direction you does not anticipate to pay for a meal this is inedible. That constitutes breach of settlement. If the police have been called they does not intrude, it relatively is no longer a criminal rely, that's a civil dispute. in case you have been to purchase groceries or a jumper in a save and that they have got been defective, in spite of the innovations-set of the till operator, you does not anticipate to pay for them. If a eating place served you adverse nutrition, why would you settle for vouchers or discounted nutrition sooner or later? the considerable difficulty is to refuse to consume the nutrition earlier you whinge I did as quickly as order fried eggs on toast and after eating the 1st egg i found, below the 2d egg, a lifeless fly! needless to say, I refused to consume to any extent further and that i refused to pay for what I had eaten. i became despatched a substantial volume of unfastened meal vouchers which I used yet each and every time I ordered nutrition I checked it heavily earlier i began eating.

If you choose to eat it you must pay for it.
If not, the manager will take it off the bill.
If you wait to complain after you eat it,
well, that's just trying to get something for free, and that's not right.
I guess it comes down to just how hungry you are at that moment !!

In the UK No! You are covered by the Sale of Goods and Services Act. But you MIGHT have to prove it in court, which could be a bit of a nuisance.
