The Sphinx was originally attached to a mortuary temple erected just in front of the pyramid of Khafre it was connected by a stone causeway. There were also smaller temples to the Left and directly in front of the Sphinx's paws.It was part of a monumental complex that was erected for Khafre.
So yes, it was a monument.

If the Sphinx isn't a monument, then what is? That thing is huge! Based on size you can easily say it's a monument. There are big mounds of dirt they call monuments. Why shouldn't the Sphinx be one?

Yes, it is a monument, but we're not sure yet what the Ancient Egyptians used it for.
