I saved an orphan once, they do NOT make good pets. They are stinky, and they aren't playful and they like to hide.

if you're in Australia and you want a baby brushtail or ringtail possum, then the only place to get them is from a wildlife shelter. That's what i did and I have just gotten my first foster possum :) if you live in America and you want a pet Opossum, then sorry but a can't help ya!

I had a great experience raising an orphan baby possum.
Every night at midnight she would climb in the trailer through the hole under the tub, climb onto the bed and rub her nose against mine to wake me up so I would feed her some cat food.
The only bad thing is they don't live very long.

there are breeders online but they are generally based in Virginia. They will ship to you if you have the proper permit for your state. they make WONDERFUL pets! dont listen to them. Just like most other animals, they can be loveable and sweet given the right upbringing and training. they can be litterbox trained and are basically cats! they eat pretty much anything and are not high maintenance at all. They have a long lifespan and good memory, which are good traits in a new family member. People misunderstand these creatures! they are NOT rodents, they are marsupials. they are NOT mean, any wild animal you find even if its a stray cat or mouse will attack to protect itself. irregardless of its species, if an animal isnt raised to be social with humans, it WILL attack if necessary. Oppossums arent any different and they are incredibly sweet pets given the chance.

Sweetie if you want a possum you come on down to MS, I will give you all the possums you can catch on my land if you promise not to bring them back when you discover that they are nasty, smelly, huge rats!!!

You cant get a baby possom anywhere (exept the woods) Possums are very dangerous animals and should be kept in the wild. If you were bit by one, it would be bad.

Possums are wild animals and should stay that way, just like squirrels.

In order to have wild animals in your possession you have to have a license or permit (like wildlife rehabbers have). Otherwise you can get huge fines. Opossums (proper spelling) are horrible pets and can carry some diseases that you could catch
