i feel that we (teachers) don't get the respect we need, because people really have no idea how difficult the job is. the government gives us more and more to be responsible for... administrators hand down mandates on what to do when they haven't actually been in a classroom in years... other teachers don't know how to work as a team... and worst of all is that parents think that their child is the only one in the room, and rather than work as a team with the teacher (it takes a village) the combat us.
over the years it's only gotten worse.
sorry if i seem cynical but after 8 + years in education, you have to realize that for every wonderful thing there is about the job, there is also some b.s. you have to tolerate.
maybe that's the problem right there.

People rag on teachers because they feel their property taxes pay their salary. I've been told teachers should all take a pay cut so all kids could have everything they need in school!!! This person would never do this in his own line of work!!
There are good teachers and bad teachers. Those who hate the union place the blame on all problems with education on the NEA. Teachers no loger are given respect on various levels. It is not an easy profession. For those who are truly good teachers, it takes a lot of time, creativity, motivation, and stamina to get through a school year.
Teaching is noble. Ragging on teachers without actually walking in their shoes is ignorant.

As a teacher I know that it is a low paying job but the outcome and rewards are not even close to the $$$$.....
I teach for a preschool and one of my student just learned how to do addition and subtraction, I was so so so proud of that child.... That moment was the time in my life I knew why I choose this as my profession. The smile on the child's face when they "get it"....

Teachers dont get the respest they deserve while they are teaching you...but as the years go by and when you have become a successful man/women...then you will think back and realise that what you have become today is all because of what they have taught you...then you will start respecting them...

There are always people answering questions with silly responces..I voted that one "thumbs down "for ya!
But you got a lot of good responces, so focus on the positive- that's what we teachers have to do, eh?!

I'm not sure why teachers are facing the rampant disrespect. I have been in education for 26 years and have not seen it this bad in my current situation. Due to it, I am looking for another school.
It baffles me to no end why kids act the way they do towards me. I am nice, respectful and always say PLEASE.
