I get so confused. First I hear they care about freedom and now I hear they don't. Then I hear they hate America but others say they love America. Who are liberals? Why are they hated so much?

There are two big views in America today, one is "liberal" the other "conservative." Basically they differ on one issue, is man basically good or not. Liberals believe generally that all people deserve an equal chance and government policy should reflect that. Therefore, government should intervene and assist all those that are disadvantaged in the society, making sure that at least they should get an education, have food and shelter, etc. This might be described as the "trickle up" theory. Conservatives believe in the dog eat dog view of the world, that it is everyman for himself, that those who succeed deserve it on their own merits, and that if they are left alone, their success will eventually benefit the rest of society by creating wealth and jobs. This is known as the "trickle down" theory. These two views ccontest with each other back and forth, and tend to demonize each other as being out of touch with reality. Lately, the consevatives have been winning the propaganda war, so liberals have been taking it on the chin. Both views have their merits, so it best for all of us to listen to both. If either side was in control too long, we would probably suffer for it. That is why the political pendulum swings back and forth between the two. After the democrats have been in control of the information with this election, the conservatives will surely take it on the chin for a while, and they will be portrayed as not caring about freedom and don't really care about America, just themselves.

Whenever you hear someone (liberal or conservative) say that the other side "doesn't care about freedom" or "hates America", put on the IGNORE flag. They have forgotten the basic principle of democracy that you can disagree with your opponent without kicking them out of the country ... in other words, if you believe in democracy (everybody discusses, votes, and then win-or-lose lives with the result), then you can disagree without accusing your opponents of being unpatriotic, unamerican, hating freedom, etc.

The fact that Americans are expressing open *hatred* for other Americans (like some of the people on this very page) is a terrorist's *dream*. It is how they have Sunnis killing Shiites over who are the "true muslims" or "true Iraqis" ... they are trying to enflame the same American-vs-American hatred here ... and they are starting to succeed.

As a liberal I can tell you that I *love* freedom, and I *love* America. Many of my liberal ideals come precisely from those specific instincts.

For example, when liberals resist parts of the Patriot Act it is not because we "hate America" and want to see the "enemies of freedom" win. (Why would we want that?) It's preciesly because we are clinging to the *freedoms* we feel are being eroded by these parts of the Patriot Act. Maybe we are misguided. But we are NOT coming from a desire to protect terrorists' rights, but from a desire to protect our own, and those of fellow Americans. To us, we weigh the benefit gained from wiretapping without warrant (we consider it to be a small benefit), compared to the loss (we consider that a major loss in freedom). You may look at the same issues and find the benefits outweigh the losses (i.e. it's a big win in safety, for a minor loss in freedom). But neither side should accuse the other of "not caring about freedom" or "hating America" ... we are all Americans, and just disagree on the details.

So I will disagree fiercely with conservatives ... but I will never accuse them all, as a group, of "hating America".

What "G" kindly doesnt offer for why "DEMOCRATS" in charge for 50 years was prosperous was then "DEMOCRATS WERE NOT LIBERAL IN TODAYS TERMS during that time." FDR was a democrat and he waged war for the good of this country (this will make more sense in a minute) When someone says that liberals hate America, this is the end result of a thought process where they leave out a few steps. Liberals believe that everybody deserves the same respect, rights, etc. See above from their own mouth about trickle up. Now this thought has progressed to believe its everybody on this world that deserves these same rights. Well their are people in this world that want YOU, ME, EVERY JEW, EVERY NON MUSLIM AND EVERY NON CONFORMIST MUSLIM DEAD. So we give them every right that we have they use that against us and we all die. Therefore its not that they hate america its that they dont understand the people who do hate america DONT deserve OUR rights. See Papis site...

as you can see from most of the answers... conservatives call anyone who disagrees with them a liberal...

and then anyone who has ever done anything horrible... they think that they are liberals...

so in their mind... liberals are just the evil people that are hell bent on destroying the earth...

but, let's take a moment and look at reality...

Democrats had control of the house and senate for 50 or so of the U.S.'s most prosperous years... that's not an accident... you can't just shrug that off... and many of them consider Democrats to be liberal...

so clearly... liberals aren't "hell-bent" on destroying America, of if they are, they are doing a very poor job of it...

they are only hated by those that don't know the facts and those that have simplistic views of politics...

The liberals are people who lean left, in a political sense. Everyone does not hate them, but many people from the right strongly disagree with them (much in the same way that the left strongly disagrees with the right). The liberals are for more gov't intervention in economics and less intervention in social issues, for the most part.

Liberals feel that the government should take care of it's people pretty much completely. They feel that the rich, who work hard and succeed should be forced to give their monies to those who choose not to work hard and succeed. They feel that we should let anyone come into this country that chooses to and give them whatever they want. They feel we should have nationalized healthcare so if you need to see the doctor you better be pshycic and determine the date you will need to see the doctor 8 months in advance.

Mostly they hate the rich for succeeding and feel they should be punished for doing just that.

After thinking many years about my ideas about liberal and conservative politics. I have come to define liberal politics as those that liberate the many from a power structure that concentrates the wealth of the global culture into the hands of a mercenary, plutocratic, predatory few. I have come to define conservative politics as those that conserve a power structure that concentrates the wealth of the many of our global culture into the hands of a mercenary, plutocratic, predatory few.

I am all in favor of a free market system that rewards those who do good deeds with wealth, power, and status. Unfortunately, the American system is not such a system. In America the people have to fight against the three i's: inflation, interest rates, and income taxes. Why do we have inflation? Because in 1913 the United States government gave the power to print an endless supply of money to a mercenary plutocratic predatory few that run the Federal Reserve Corporation. The dollar today is worth about 25 times less than it was worth in 1913. That's the effect of inflating the money supply by a factor of 25 times. About the same time politicians declared the 16 th Amendment was ratified giving the federal government the power to impose an income tax. Why do we suddenly need to pay income taxes after over a hundred years? Because the power to print money is now in the hands of the Federal Reserve Corporation. Get this: The Federal Reserve Corporation prints up as much money as it likes for basically the cost of paper and ink and then loans this money to the Federal government at interest!!!! The income taxes are needed inorder to pay for the principle and interest on these loans. All of this easy money and easy credit has made possible a continuing series of wars.

Maybe a mercenary plutocratic predatory few both terrorize the many and offer protection in exchange for gold in a global shakedown of epic proportions that some call a war on terror. Maybe the goal of a war on terror is not to end terror, or to create security necessary for a lasting peace. Maybe the goal of a war on terror is to spread terror in war. Maybe by spreading terror in war, a mercenary plutocratic predatory few create greater demand in the global market place for the products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex. Maybe use of terror to create greater demand in the global market place for the products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex; generates greater profits from the sale and manufacture of these products and services; and further concentrates the wealth of the global culture into the hands of a mercenary plutocratic predatory few. Maybe use of terror in an effort to create greater demand for and generate greater profits from the manufacture and sale of the products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex is a form of extortion. Maybe a mercenary plutocratic predatory few are extortionists that conspire to use terror to coerce the many into giving the few gold in exchange for protection offered by the manufacture and sale of products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex. If the mass media that the many rely upon for news and entertainment, and officials that the many rely upon for representation in government are owned and operated by a mercenary plutocratic predatory few that seeks to create greater demand for and generate greater profits from the manufacture and sale of products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex, then fraudulent prewar intelligence could be transmitted by a mercenary plutocratic predatory few from the mouths of corrupt government officials through news made available by mass media to ears of the many as a means to an end of generating public support for a war on terror. Maybe transmission of fraudulent prewar intelligence by government officials as a means to an end of generating public support for a war on terror is a form of treason. Maybe a government corrupted by commerce to the point of being owned and operated by a mercenary plutocratic predatory few would be unable and or unwilling to investigate, and would instead rally around the flag.

The liberals are hypocrites who claim they believe in the power of the majority to influence the Constitution. Then they employ the ACLU to undermine the majority.
