It's best if your partner knows her cycle and knows when she is ovulating...you can use mymonthlycycles.com ovulation calculator to help. Once you figure this out you want to start having sex 5 days before she ovulates and then every other day after that until about 2 days after she ovulates....This helps the man's sperm count stay up and increases your chances of becoming pregnant.....The sperm can live in the body for up to 5 days but the egg only lives 24 hours.....

Technically it only takes once. My husband and I charted and temped for a year and a half before we got pregnant. The average couple takes around 8 months to get pregnant.
