by multitool i mean those that have a blade, corkscrew thing, screw driver, bottle opener. some come with pliers. obviously not carry it to school but like if he ever has to open something like a box. i dont know if it matters but is it legal in florida really is what i would like to know

The answer varies from state to state, but most agree that you can carry a knife with a blade smaller than 6". Most require that the blades are sheathed either in a sheath or folded into the handle. They also outlaw spring-loaded knives, such as switchblades, and gravity knives in most places.

However a Boy Scout carrying a multi-tool won't raise an eyebrow no matter how young he is. It really depends on why you want to carry it. If it is for work, there usually no problems. If it's for defense there are slight problems. If it is for criminal activity or for assaulting somebody, there are huge problems.

There also laws about where you can carry a knife. Schools, banks and hospitals are usually off limits.
