Starvation from the crash in 29, had reached into the future especially with the war in Europe going on in the 30's people here were still trying to sort out their lives after that stock market crash. The 40's had an enterprising talent of freedom of free exchange after prohibition was lifted so sales of liquor helped the economic status here and and everywhere in the world there was the import, and export. The executions being performed in Europe of the Jewish race made a grave difference they were trading up their material holdings as well as the gold out of their teeth to balance budgets in many countries, as well as the scientific findings that were put into action that were forced by the Nazis out of the Jewish scientists held as prisoners. The Gershwin and Irving Berlin music became very famous and Hollywood made many movies about the wars of WW1 and then WW2 so they were profitting very nicely, for the films of the 30's roled over into the 40's as great hits. The military stance we took in WW1 roled over as well to make the hero worship in the forties a forgone conclusion, that the support financially and morally would follow us into battle after the bombing of Pearl Harbor 12/7/41. Fashions from the 30's were still being held up and yet they improved on those as to fit the average person to fit the times. Food as I said was hard to come by just like in the depression for they had rationing of milk and butter etc., because we were sending food to the troops, so they said. That is yet a mystery today about the rationing thing? You might want to research more on the subject of history at www.history.com
