It is illegal and they are settling cases out of court for thousands of dollars. They can trace a download to an ISP and the ISP has records of who was using that address at that time.

If you are ONLY stealing songs you mean???
Yea, its illegal.

Limewire itself is not illegal, as you could also be "sharing" your own poetry or other original creations that are not subject to copyright laws. Limewire is just the vehicle. Kinda like a car in a bank robery. Driving a car is not illegal - its what you do with it that may be.

You get caught from your internet address being monitored, which specifically identifies your computer. All the ISP's keep records and IF asked by the courts, they will be required to provide your account information to them.

Apart from all what the others have said, you do get something for free on lime wire.
Trojan horses, Worms, viruses and every other nasty you can think of that will infect your computer.

My advice is to forget Lime Wire and buy all your music, you can get tracks for about 60p (legal online stores) not much and safer.

Nicest way to tell you the answer to your question.

Good Luck.

Yes, It is considered stealing. And they catch you by getting a search warrant on your ISP for the info on the user at that times IP address.
