Yes - re-install the system

Are you selling your computer, dumping it, or just want to start from fresh.

If your starting from fresh, just just re-install your OS. If installing from Windows, it's ask you which partition to install to. Choose to delete that partition, create a new partition, then format that partition using the NTFS format.

If your selling your system, there is a program call Windows Washer from Webroot. It has a system erase in which it will erase the entire boot drive, and write and delete data to the drive several times so that previous data cannot not be restored easily. You can actually specify the amount of times it writes and deletes the data. The more passes, the more time it's take.

However, if your dumping your computer, take out the hard drive and go "Office Space" on it with a sledge hammer!

Chose the format option. All fileswill be erased, including system files. Then you have to reload the programs. So do not go for formatting the 'C' drive where the system files are stored. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/ hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

Search the net for the Ultimate Boot CD. There is a utility that will erase everything to military standards with no hope of recovery.
