unfortunately, not these days. colleges and universities aren't only looking for a decent GPA, they also want a "well-rounded" student, meaning they want you to participate in clubs, activities, sports, and local community activities/programs (volunteer stuff.) for the ivy league big-boys, you still can't be a total failure, unless they're giving you a sport scholarship, and then you can pretty much teswt lower than wood and still get accepted. if you're anywhere before your senior year (11th grade or lower) jump into activitites, keep up with your studies, and make sure you have enough tuition money before applying!!!

No. But unlike some of the other responders, I don't believe that it's just a matter of money, or being a drone.
You have to show that you can do the level of work expected at the college. And that can be proven through your essay, or your test scores, or you activities.
But as someone who goes to a pretty selective school, I'll tell you that I've yet to meet a 'genius' here.

nope, sort of the opposite, just a drone who does exactly what the teacher asks and then doesn't ask too many questions or want proof or reasons for everything.
