I quite often have to read the questions 2 or 3 times. Does it annoy anyone else that some people cant be bothered to use the spell check.

Laziness and lack of accountability in school. If no one has made them get assignments correct they see no reason why they should spend the extra time to do so. After all it takes about three seconds to do the spell check. Why should they waste those three seconds of their life just to show the public that they are actually educated?

yes, I am only 34, yet I am absolutely appauled at the lack of proper grammer and spelling on this site and in the country as a whole. Even when I was at university people were giving in dissertations with the most atrociously mis-spelt words and names in. I have always loved language and words etc and it really saddens me that it will be lost to future generations. I think you can always tell the best educated people on this site, by the fact they can spell and phrase a question in the proper way. It sometimes takes me ages to work out what is being asked (when indeed it is a proper question and not just a statement). I'd go as far to say I don't even believe there is such a thing as dyslexia, its just laziness and an unwillingness to face a challenge. As for spell check, don't even get me started.

It did annoy me when i first came on this site,i have gotten used to it now though, and find that no amount of cajoling or slating by anyone is going to make some one good at spelling-maths-or grammar. There are posts to your question who have cited dyslexia, laziness, learning difficulties, the schooling in use today,as opposed to "yester year"-and the non-use of the spell check facility-there was even a post which suggested that it is a character trait in some people...all good and valid points i am sure, but unless it is truly atrocious spelling,i tend to let it slide and let them get on with it.

Difficulty in spelling can stem from a variety of reasons. The first and most obvious is dyslexia, a form of word blindness where suffers cannot visualise a word in their mind. Another reason is forgetfulness, one simply forgets how to spell a certain word and many of us have words we find hard to spell.
If we all spelt phonetically, maybe there would be less problems. Not being able to spell is NOT a sign of low intelligence, it's just another characteristic of our individuality.

Yes, it irritates me. I think it's very rude to ask someone to take the time and effort to answer a question, when they have taken no care in asking it.
I am quite appalled by some of the attrocious spelling and grammar on this site.

The correct answer to this question, is: School has not prepared the general population for the world we live in. Spelling has become passè due to "spell checkers" and pride of speech has gone down the tube with spelling. If you want to be heard and understood - spell well and speak succinctly.

there are a lot of reasons , a lot of people havn`t got English as their first language there are children who use this site people who are dyslexic and people like me who wasn`t lucky enough to have a good education . i doubt if anyone misspells words because of laziness why would it be any easier to spell a word wrong
The spell checker is only any use to someone who can spell. OK it`s easy enough to click check spelling then what , it stops on a word and gives you a choice of three corrections , if you can`t spell how are you expected to know which one, if any, you are supposed to use .so what do you do click on the top one which makes even less sense than your own wrong word .also it doesn`t find all the wrong words if you wanted to write waist but instead you had waste the spell checker would leave it as its a correct word . more people should realise that a good education is a privilege not a right and be grateful that they were lucky enough to have one instead of looking down on and patronising people who didn`t have the opportunities that they had

the difficulty comes around through not paying enough attention at English classes but having said that some folk have reasons that prevent them from absorbing what is being taught to them
