Halfway - then your walking out !

Then you pass the trees that have fallen over but didn't make a noise because there was nobody there to hear them !

You can never walk out of a wood (we call them forests in Australia). A forest is an entity, each one is different. Once you walk into it, you become part of the forest. That way, whenever you leave the forest, you take some of it with you. The memory of a bird call, the sighting of an animal that you will never forget, the scent of flower or the time the ranger pulls you over and tells you your breaking the law! All this twaddle about halfway is a load of bull. One step is enough if you find what you want. Or 1000 leagues if you are still looking.
Alternatively, mark off 1 square metre or yard and watch it for a year. Keep a diary and note the changes. That's how far you can walk into the woods.
But be careful, today might be the the day the teddy bears have their picnic!

Before you can determine what marks the halfway mark, you must determine how long and how far you will be walking in the wood. When I am deer hunting, I could be walking into the wood 3-4 miles, but for a stroll, I might only walk into the wood 1/2 mile or so. The last half of your walk (no matter how long and far) would be the walk "out of the wood," correct?

A description of "far" is now needed.

If you think a wood geometrically as a homogeneous, circular environment, you can go 50% of its diameter.

But, if you think that you can find new things by every step in a wood, this trip is over only when you leave the wood at its end.

You can walk into the middle and then you are walking out to the other side.
Or you can walk into the middle and turn around and walk out the way you went in.
